The Essential Responsivity Toys
for Getting Started

Hermes’ Web with its four axis, moveable center, and 8 points represents the whole of life, the whole of a human being as well.  Modern life seems determined to ignore everything below the a barrier – to abandon it, seal it off, and drown it as well.  The barrier, made of flexible & durable material, represents the separation between the conscious and unconscious mind and presents a way to discuss the pros and cons of this separation, as well as its consequences, especially for one’s spiritual life.

Hermes’ Web is a tool that allows you to demonstrate crucial psychological concepts, behaviors and a person’s psychological structure.  Clients can also take it into their own hands to offer their viewpoint or add nuances and corrections.  Together, you can come to mutual understandings that allows therapy to move forward, or allow parents and children, teachers and students to communicate better and more clearly.

Some people don’t learn well if they can’t see something tangible, and some can’t learn if they can’t hold something in their hands.  The combination of a learning object, a talking stick with dynamic possibilities, and a tool that is exchangeable between client/student/child/adult and whomever is leading the discussion, opens new horizons and makes communication far more effective, even enjoyable.  It gets people on the same page and creates a back-and-forth that legitimizes all sides of a discussion.

Each Web comes with a barrier and a link to instructions and demonstrations for utilizing the Web.

THE BUTT HEADS

These were originally designed to put out cigarettes, but they conveniently fit over the ends of Hermes’ Web.  They can represent the ego – atop the barrier, or what dwells ominously in the core – under the barrier.  Just use your imagination or let your client pick what fits for them – their own estimation of what inhabits their core – one or many!  These little doodads allow you to discuss possible issues either above or below the barrier and the relationship between those too often separated worlds.   It’s really a bit of a Rorschach in that you can project all manner of things on these creatures and objects.  Use one at a time, several at a time, above, below, or both, as is apropos.  Toys to represent what makes a person a butthead!

  • SET OF 12 DIFFERENT BUTTHEADS

LARGE HOBERMAN SPHERES: One of the most exciting toys I have ever discovered – saw someone playing with it at the Walker Art Center Gift Store in Minneapolis. It seemed to explode with possibilities: the hard core in the center, the ability to expand and contract, open and close, just like human beings. It demonstrates the way we can lock ourselves up, become emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually constipated to the point where only heavy-duty drugs or drinking can open us up again, unfortunately then releasing our frustrations, hatreds, violence, and fears onto others in the vicinity, just like an old-fashioned jailbreak. The Hoberman mimics well the machinations of the human soul in both its agonies and ecstasies!

LARGE HOBERMAN SPHERE AVAILABLE IN 4 COLOR SCHEMES:

  • RAINBOW

  • FIREFLY

  • GLOW-IN-THE-DARK LIME GREEN

  • GLOW-IN-THE-DARK PURPLE

THE HOBERMAN SPHERE & ACCESSORIES

SMALL HOBERMAN SPHERE: The small Hoberman Sphere does everything the larger one does, but it also oddly carries a version of Nazi swastikas in the center that draw together to form the hard inner circle that represents the “not see”-ing that happens when we close ourselves down, become hard-core, and refuse to see what is before us, clinging instead to our prejudices, fears, traumas and biases!  DO NOT BE A NOT SEE!

  • AVAILABLE ONLY IN RAINBOW

TOYS THAT FIT INSIDE THE SMALL & LARGE HOBERMAN SPHERE & REPRESENT THE NATURE OF A PERSON’S PSYCHOLOGICAL CORE-THEIR CORE VALUES AND THEIR PSYCHOLOGICAL AGE!
