The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the embodiment of Hermes in these Universal Monster sets. He is really at the center, representing the core and the connectness between all the elements. Also, the Hunchback has had a horrible life - being disfigured, ostrasized, humiliated and dishonored in a myriad of ways. Yet, he manages to maintain the ability to love and is a compassionate man with a conscience. The Hunchback embodies what a human can be when they recognize and manage their wounds, liabilities and vulnerabilities and are not mis-shapen by their shame, abuse and lost opportunities. The Hunchback could suffer from all the personality disorders, has sufficient wounds to merit that malevolent distinction, yet chooses not to, finds a way through it and emerges with the capacities for conscience, community and compassion. He is a true role model of someone who has survived bullying without offing themselves, becoming dangerously passive-aggressive, or just depressed and self-destructive. Yea!!
