Nuclear Family Waste
Every family has some - some families have a warehouse full! With families, as with individuals, we push things down past the barrier into the core for safekeeping and keeping out of sight. Sweep them under the rug and bottle them up tight!
In America we speak of the nuclear family - the family and its nucleus. So, why not call that pushed-down, repressed, suppressed, buried, avoided family issues and family history NUCLEAR FAMILY WASTE. It is toxic after all - radioactive in the sense its negative effects can have a long half-life and remain harmful for many generations. It is perhaps clearer to see in the lives of Native American and African American families who underwent systematic and widespread abuses, even after gaining their so-called freedom. Even this past year, 2024, a Senatorial candidate in Montana disses and makes fun of Native Americans, characterizing their primary identity as being drunks. Even now some want to make it illegal to discuss America's history with Native and African Americans, especially the ugly parts, considering them to have no current relevance and to be something that only makes America and the individuals within it look bad.
Likewise, our country has a vast storage area of Nuclear Family Waste as well! It is toxic. It lasts a long time, it is not easy to clean up once de-contained! It's emotionally and spiritually costly to store it. We also have a literal vast storage area of Nuclear Waste in Hanover, Washington, which has had leaks in its 177 underground tanks and 56 million gallons of radioactive and hazardous chemical waste, contaminating the surrounding land and groundwater. The clean-up is likely to continue for decades.
The waste continues to pollute and contaminate and mutate those in contact with it - whether literal or psychological waste. It doesn’t just go away. It isn’t just a relic of the past and no longer relevant - in my opinion. It needs to be factored in!
This toy helps talk about these issues in a somewhat humorous manner. The goop glows in the dark. It has cockroaches in it, as cockroaches are rumored to be able to survive nuclear holocausts (an untested assumption I believe). But it is good for clients to talk about how much nuclear family waste is stored up inside them and how it effects them. This toy will help!!
