Labron James--EQ As A Way Of Life!
LeBron James with no father, no college education, no training, and very few role models except his single mother Gloria and his friend’s father who was their basketball coach for many years - saw something in that group of boys and nurtured it. Yet, they handed this young, dirt poor black kid $420,000 per week, at the age of 18, to play basketball and become the face of the $75 billion NBA!
Labron married his high school sweetheart Savannah, was never arrested, never used drugs, and never humiliated his wife publicly with side chick stories. No outside babies. Never divorced. Watch the movie, SHOOTING STARS, for a great rendition of his young life and rise to stardom and the lessons learned along the way. I’ve watched it at least 4 times in the past year!
As far as I know, Labron was never in the news with so much as a parking ticket. He was and is an excellent father who is heavily involved with his 3 kid's activities. And he’s also arguably the greatest player of all time!
20 years later. Same dude. Same maturity. Same chick. Same family. Reputation intact. A billionaire earning over $2 million per week. He has sent more than 2,300 at risk kids from his hometown to college — fully paid for. He’s built a school in Akron. And he’s 40 years old and still going strong with the LA Lakers!!
Labron’s life is nice to contemplate, and to witness the influences that were there! I’ve been to the drive-in, Swenson’s, where they often hung out - been there many times. Would have been tremendously exciting to be there when Labron and the Fab Four were making their way through high school! It’s still exciting to watch Labron play. This toy makes it easy to tell some of those tales, speculate with a client about how it all came to pass and why it didn’t crash and burn like so many lives do!! And, to compare it to other athlete’s life and what worked and didn’t work for them. Is Basketball IQ enough if you don’t also have Basketball EQ - emotional intelligence? Our athlete action figures are great ways to discuss difficult issues without having to point at someone, or point someone out. The conversation can come alive and each person can contribute and each person can make their considerations, which may well result in some kind of change or alteration. And, it’s a lot more fun this way too!!!
