The Witnesses: Mrs. Plum, Albert & Mayhew
What a story!! A woman dies from domestic abuse – dead and buried in the woods, the brute getting away with it. A lonely man finds a bony hand with a ring on it sticking up out of the snow, then discovers The Corpse Bride and her story and as it unfolds, the perpetrator is brought to justice and the Corpse Bride and the lonely man find love! Unfortunately, this story too much resembles real life and the violence against women and those who escape justice! The toys are beautiful! Watch The Corpse Bride video if you haven’t! In a high security prison setting, the story seemed a little lightweight, but poignant nonetheless!
And, importantly, crimes almost always have witnesses and quite often they are silent. There are people who observe many things but don’t typically speak about them: the cook in a bar, the butler, the driver, the neighbor, the kid who mows the lawn. And we know witnesses are very, very important because all too often, they are killed or disappeared, intimidated or bribed before they have an opportunity to testify in court. And, it can be terrifying to be a witness if the criminal under trial has a reputation for harming the people that cross or expose them!
In a world other than crime, in order for love to bloom and prosper, sometimes the story of the soul's murder must come out and be told - the murder solved or the murder identified at least! Love is sometimes woven together with the exchange of stories of one's abuse and demise, what buried you and made you invisible, what shamed and humiliated you. The grace of love is sometimes more likely to descend when honestly has revealed all that went into creating this creature that one desires to spend one's life with. The journey must be made to the imprisoned heart to free it from its bonds of trauma! Only those who truly love you and what you are can find entrance to that special cage and unlock it! The stories need to be heard by someone who can truly listen without trying to make it immediately better!!
Witnesses can give one heart to proceed - validating the experiencing, testifying to the horrors and abuse, carrying genuine sympathy and empathy for the suffering, all of which can help free one from the deathly embrace. Love has a way of seeking the deepest wounds - probably that’s the labor in what we call the labor of love!!
